Trees of Remembrance

This year we have two trees of remembrance, one inside the church, the other in the garden outside.

The tree in the garden (next to the nativity display) enables departed loved ones, whether person or pet, to be remembered. Stars are available next to the tree on which messages may be written. Donations are invited for the Soul Mutts dog rescue charity.

Inside the church is a tree of remembrance for departed (human) loved ones. Cards are available in which messages may be written, placed in an envelope and pegged on the tree. Donations will go towards the upkeep of St Paul's Church.

We thank all in advance for donations made.

Covid practices

News of Covid-19 had faded into the background as other concerns took precedance in recent months. However, with autumn now upon us, there are some signs that infections are rising again and we continue to be alert to any guidance that might be offered to help minimise the risk of infection spreading.

We base our Covid procedures on the current guidance from the Church of England, dated 18th July 2022, a copy of which is available below. We support anyone who would prefer to wear a mask during the service or who wishes to observe social distancing.

We have now returned to offering the bread and wine during Holy Communion at the altar rail again, rather than at the entrance to the choir area.

Remembrance

Our Remembrance events, held on 13th November 2022, were well attended and began with a service in the village hall at 10am, led by Revd John Ewington.

As many as 80 people gathered at the war memorial from 10:45am for the Act of Remembrance, also led by John. Wreaths were laid by Cllr Richard Beer on behalf of Landkey Parish Council and by Peter Soper for St Paul's Church. A wreath was laid on behalf of the Cornish family by Julia Jenkins, niece of Charles Cornish whose name is listed on the memorial. Peter Elder called out the names of the fallen and read the ode, "For the Fallen". The "Kohima Epitaph" was spoken by John Hayes who also bore the standard on behalf of the Burma Star Association.
